After San Marin High School’s varsity baseball team lost 0-2 to the Novato High School Hornets on March 17, 2026, San Marin beat Novato 5-2 at home on March 20 to secure their third Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) win of the season. This victory officially gives the San Marin Mustangs an even 3-3 record in MCAL and a chance to boost their ranking, with two upcoming league games against Tamalpais High School, who currently hold a 2-2 record in MCAL.
In action, the Mustangs were on the pitching mound first, with a 1-2-3 inning from senior pitcher Nate Mandelbrot, striking out the final batter swinging.
In the bottom of the first, with Novato’s senior pitcher Griffin Vorhaus on the mound, the Mustangs got on the board with a solo home run from senior catcher Matthew Baldino.
In the third inning, junior first baseman Dylan Procopio hit a RBI double to give San Marin a 2-0 lead against Novato.
The Hornets finally got on the board in the top of the fourth with one run batted in.
In the bottom of the fifth, Procopio hit a three-run home run to extend the Mustangs lead to 5-1. Novato narrowed down the lead by batting in one more run in the sixth inning. The final score came out to 5-2, San Marin.
Novato’s Griffin Vorhaus posted a 7.00 ERA in their loss, while San Marin’s Mandelbrot posted a 1.75 ERA, earning his first winning start this season.
San Marin’s junior pitcher Logan Reed closed the game, giving up zero runs for the Mustangs in the final inning.
San Marin’s next league game will be played at home against Tamalpais on Tuesday at 4:30 P.M., giving San Marin an opportunity to get a winning record in MCAL.
