San Marin High School alumnus Dylan Crafter graduated in 2025. He is currently attending the University of Sunderland in Sunderland, England, and is majoring in business. However, Crafter’s main focus right now is on South Shields Football Club, where he plays as an attacking midfielder.
As a junior, he played on the San Marin varsity soccer team. That was the first team to win a North Coast Section (NCS) playoff game in almost 30 years.
“He scored 4 goals against Roseland, a team that I personally had never beaten,” Varsity soccer coach and Physical Education teacher Benjamin Philpot said. “We lost to them in some really big games. It was our last game before we started the postseason last year, and he just went off and scored 4 goals, and it was crazy!”
Currently, Crafter is in the middle of his first season with South Shields. In his last game, he scored his first goal this season.
“My personal performances have been pretty good as I’ve been moved into a midfield role,” Crafter said. “In our match yesterday, I managed to score a free kick for my first goal of the season.”
Crafter’s dedication to the sport was easily noticed at San Marin.
“He just loves soccer, and he enjoys every minute being out there…[no matter the conditions], he still loves it,” Philpot said. “He’s always got a good attitude.”
Crafter’s story is inspirational to student athletes around the San Marin campus and he hopes to inspire future generations.
“Work hard to achieve your goals and to be willing to go far outside your comfort zone to be successful,” Crafter said.
