Jordan Hunnell is a freelance sports cinematographer as well as a coach. As a member of the San Marin community for the past eight years, he’s built his cinematography business and explored his passion for lacrosse.
This school year was Hunnell’s first year coaching lacrosse for San Marin. He coached at Redwood High School for eight years, and at Lincoln High School in Stockton for three years.
Seeing lacrosse on television as a young child jump-started his career as a coach and videographer. He connects with his players by trying to relate to their experiences and implementing a personal aspect into lacrosse. Senior Sean Cao shares how Hunnell tries to push his players individually to improve their playing.
“I think our coach emphasizes a lot on self-improvement and the small things,” Cao said. “In games, if we’re losing, he’ll always just tell us to worry about the next play; don’t get down and just stay disciplined.”
According to junior Daniel Gilmore, Hunnell plans to coach at San Marin for many years to come. He also coaches the Nighthawks, the Little League lacrosse team. Hunnell plans to build connections to improve the lacrosse program at San Marin.
“He’s trying to build a long-developed program for years to come,” Gilmore said. “And especially with his videos, it probably attracts a lot of people to [San Marin].”
Hunnell does photography and videography for any team at San Marin that requests it, although his favorite sport to film is lacrosse. Hunnell discovered his passion for filming while trying to get recruited for sports out of high school. During his senior year, he was required to create a video of himself playing, which he edited afterwards. Hunnell uses his creativity to promote sports in Marin and uplift players.
Hunnell publishes his work on YouTube and Instagram, @hundoproductions.
