When it comes to baseball, few students from Marin have excelled to the college level. From playing catch for the first time, to starting baseball at five, to receiving a scholarship to play baseball at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, junior Sean McGrath has found a love for baseball.
“What really motivates me is just the sport of baseball itself, I like having a good time,” McGrath said.
Through baseball, McGrath has found support through his friends and family. “Besides college, baseball has given me a wide group of friends and support from them,” McGrath said.
After playing at San Marin for three years, only one question came to his mind: what does it mean for McGrath to be a Mustang?
“Being a Mustang means playing the game of baseball the right way and playing with your teammates,” McGrath said. McGrath has also done more than just win games. Baseball is a team sport, and McGrath is a team player. Joey Cipollina shares how McGrath has influenced him.
“Sean has impacted my career on and off the field as he is a great leader and mentor,” Cipollina said. “Sean has helped me learn techniques to play better. He’s also a great motivator and trainer in general.”
McGrath continues to be an inspiration to his teammates and others around him. He looks forward to the next chapter in his baseball journey. “I’m excited to continue playing baseball in the future. Especially at a college level. It’s changed my life and I hope it continues to inspire others,” McGrath said.
