The San Marin Boys’ swim team, which struggled to place well in MCALs in previous years, won more swim meets this season. After finishing sixth place out of nine in MCAL’s last season, they improved their team and finished in fourth place this season. This continued effort included veteran swimmers and new underclassmen.
One of the biggest changes in the team has been positivity, brought by the new year and the new swimmers.
“We are a very friendly group,” sophomore Ben Lotosh said. “We like each other very much. We kind of goof around sometimes, but we’re hardworking.”
The team’s growth has shown throughout the years, and they have succeeded at meets.
“We’ve had a lot of new swimmers come in this year, which has impacted the team a lot,” junior and co-captain of the team, Miron Gridin, said. “We’ve gone from a six-three record [last year] to a six-two record this year. We have a lot of potential in meddling during MCALs and possibly finaling during NCS.”
Senior and co-captain Joe Riccio believes the San Marin boys’ swim is not just an easy competition anymore.
“I feel like we used to be just another meet on the schedule for some Southern Marin schools who have more historic programs, but now, we’re beating them,” Riccio said. “We’re not just another meet, we’re losses for them.”
The team finished fourth in MCALS and in their final relays, placed 23rd and 29th overall in NCS.
