On March 21, San Marin will be hosting Fiesta Ritmica, a dance and dinner celebrating and bringing together Hispanic and Latino cultures from 6-8 p.m. in the quad.
The purpose of the dance is to join cultures together through food, activities, music, and dance. There will be a buffet of homemade foods catered from a local small business with homemade recipes passed down from relatives, along with a live band playing Mexican-style music called banda.
“[This] is a first time thing. San Marin has never done something like this so it would be fun to try it out and see what it’s like,” junior Alexa Garcia said.
After feeling a lack of representation of their cultures, Garcia and junior Kayley Lopez came up with the idea for the dance and have been leading a student planning committee for Fiesta Ritmica. The planning committee is open to all students who wish to help, not just leadership.
“If Fiesta Ritmica goes well this year, we are hoping to keep it going every year,” Lopez said.
The entry fee will be $10 and students will receive a bracelet as their entry ticket. Students will be able to purchase tickets in art and Leadership teacher Liz Lloyd’s classroom, room 804, starting the week of March 3.
Students will be allowed to bring guests, with the same price and date available to buy as student tickets.
San Marin will have a three-day spirit week leading up to Fiesta Ritmica, including jersey day, “represent your country” day, and Western day.
The attire for the dance is western. Students should wear boots, jeans, and flannel. There will also be a photo booth plus activities and games.

El 21 de marzo, San Marín será el anfitrión de la Fiesta Rítmica, un baile y cena que celebra y reúne las culturas hispanas y latinas de las 6 a 8 p.m. en el patio central.
La idea general es unir todas las culturas hispanas y latinas a través de comida, actividades, música y baile. Habrá un buffet de comidas caseras de varias culturas atendidas por un pequeño negocio local con recetas caseras heredadas de familiares, junto con una banda en vivo tocando música.
“[Esto] es la primera vez, San Marín nunca ha hecho algo como esto, así que sería divertido probarlo y ver cómo es,” dijo la junior y fundadora del baile Alexa García.
Después de sentir una falta de representación de sus culturas, a Kayley López y García de tercer año se les ocurrió la idea del baile y han estado liderando un comité de planificación estudiantil para la Fiesta Rítmica.
