When summer comes around, many choose to style thrifted clothes and to style a warmer wardrobe. Sophomore Bella Lindsay’s staple clothes include vintage skirts and statement shoes. One of her favorite outfits features a skirt handed down from her mom, Doc Marten boots from the Doc Marten store in San Francisco, a brown tank top from Target, and a necklace from her mom.
“Some things I’ll get straight from a label for basics like jeans but most are second hand or from places and concerts I’ve been to when it comes to shirts or accessories,” Lindsay said. “My favorite part of my outfit is the skirt, it used to be my mom’s.”
She gets a lot of her inspiration from her friend Jade Stanton and Pinterest. Although her style frequently changes, they often include earthy colors using her creativity to create outfits and design pieces.
“I get most of my jewelry from weird, fun little stores, usually in Petaluma or Fairfax,” Lindsay said.
Every piece of clothing has a story behind it, from where it came from, who gave it to them, and memories that go along with it. There’s many different reasons why people enjoy fashion, and styling their clothes, and endless ways to style things.
“What I enjoy most about styling my clothes is being able to express myself without needing to use words,” Lindsay said.
Junior Levi Manville’s staples include Levi jorts, Adidas Sambas, and a white cotton t-shirt. Around half of his clothes are thrifted, he uses used clothing websites like Depop and Grailed, but also buys a good amount of new clothing pieces.

“I get a lot of inspiration for my outfits from social media, brands, and friends,” Manville said. “I usually wear pants in the summer, but when it gets really hot out I wear shorts.”
Manville feels that there are many different ways you can style your clothes; from putting different colors and patterns together to pairing tight and baggy clothing items.
“When [I style] something I just go for what I feel the most comfortable and confident wearing,” Manville said. “I don’t really go for a vibe… but I focus on clothes that would fit my proportions and that would fit well rather than the color of patterns on them.”
