Alex Consani, a model from the Bay Area, became the first-ever transgender model to win the title of “Model of the Year.”
The Annual Fashion Awards were hosted in London, England last December. At the show, Consani was awarded the “Model of the Year” achievement.
This award is important for the fashion industry as it celebrates a model who has an enormous impact and influence on and off the catwalk.
Consani grew up in Sonoma County and graduated from Petaluma High School in 2021.
Before getting her high school diploma, she entered the world of modeling and signed
with IMG Models, a famous modeling agency, at 16 years old.
While attending Pace University, the model earned her first break walking the
runway for the brand Tom Ford. Since then, she has dropped out of college and continued to grow her career, walking for brands such as Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Chanel, and Victoria’s Secret, currently living in New York City.
As her career has grown, Consani has gained a following of 4.8 million people on TikTok. She is known for posting videos of herself dancing, walking around NYC, and making comedy videos.
Consani was very grateful towards other transgender women, especially trans women of color, for paving the way for her success.
In her Model of the Year acceptance speech, Consani said, “I can’t accept this award
without thanking those that came before me and specifically the black trans women that really fought for the space that I’m in today.”
