On October 25th, the long-awaited ramen restaurant Yosumi Ramen opened in the Novato Fair Shopping Center. Diners can enjoy their savory gyoza, ramen, or sushi, and then hop on next door to Pearl for dessert. With their reasonable prices, fresh food, and signature made-fresh everyday tempura sauce, they have already made a positive impression on the residents of Novato.
I went over the weekend with two of my friends. We were craving ramen and sushi, and Yosumi Ramen did not disappoint. I ordered the Sno Dragon Roll, and the staff were very patient while I waited for my mom to transfer some money onto my card.
The roll itself was perfect and savory, larger than the pre-packaged sushi rolls you can find at Harvest or Safeway. The imitation crab meat was on top of the roll and the crunch (tenkasu) was inside where the crab would usually be—but honestly, I almost liked it better without the crunch falling all over my plate.
One thing I would mention, however, while not necessarily bad, is that their food is very, very rich. Between my friends and I, we ordered the Sno Dragon Roll, two ramen bowls, and a serving of gyoza, and we could hardly finish our food because even half of a dish was so filling.
“We probably could have shared a bowl,” junior Maya Waldorf said.
Something I noticed off the bat is that the broth of their ramen is so warm and comforting. It would be a perfect sick day meal— fancier and more healing than Top Ramen or Maruchen.
“The ramen was really good, I liked how it was presented with the eggs and rice cakes. The broth was my favorite with its amazing flavor,” junior Annabelle Brownfield said. “I would 100% go again.”
While I would still put Sushi Tri above Yosumi Ramen for sushi rolls, their ramen is unmatched, and if I were in the mood for a roll, and all of my friends were going to Yosumi, I would not complain about having more of their delicious sushi at such a good price.
“The price is perfect for a broke high schooler,” Waldorf said.
My sushi was about $15.00 and the ramen was about $16.00, both pretty good prices for the portion size and food quality, compared to SushiHolic, for example, which prices their rolls around $20.00 to $26.00.
Overall, Yosumi Ramen is a great restaurant and a perfect addition to Novato. It offers great service, tasty food, and a comfortable, intimate atmosphere. I rate it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
