While many student-athletes excel and focus on one sport their entire high school career, others, like senior Lars Rau, excel at multiple varsity sports, even trying new ones for the first time.
Rau has played varsity soccer and baseball but decided to try out for kicker on the football team this year, after losing love for his other sports.
“I kind of lost love for baseball and all the other sports, and I wanted to try something new. They needed a new kicker for football, so I thought I would give it a try,” Rau said.
Rau worked with former kicker, Ryan Rodas, to get practice to fit into the role, and found great success in his endeavor. Rau is rated a 5 star kicker and is ranked 67th in his Class.
Rau enjoyed his season as a kicker and shares that his favorite part was beating Marin Catholic (MC).
“It was overall a very good experience because my coaches supported me a lot as well as my friends. My favorite experience was probably beating MC,” Rau said.
Currently, Rau plans on continuing his football career as a kicker in college. He has an offer to play football at the University of Nevada Reno, but is still waiting to hear from other schools. Pennsylvania State University is his dream school to play football.
“[My] dream school to play football at would be Penn State; I went on a visit there,” Rau said. “But right now, anywhere that has a good coach and a good team.”
