While some staff, like the campus supervisors, can be found roaming the campus, many others stay in the office and might be lesser known. The Unsung Heroes for this issue are Amy Milani, Student Records Technician, and Laura Ramadan, Registrar. These ladies work hard in the office, and are involved with the students, even if they aren’t seen as often.
Ramadan is the registrar, and works mostly with students’ transcripts, although her old job as a counseling technician involved student records as well.
“For the last three or four years I’ve been the registrar. I enter transcripts, I send transcripts to colleges, and I work with student files,” Ramadan said. “I work with anything and everything related to the students’ academics. [Milani and I] support the counselors and we support the administrative team.”
Milani has also been in her position for about four years. She started during COVID, but has since been able to interact and work with the students face-to-face.
“I like the teen environment that high school has,” Milani said. “There’s always job positions you can apply to at the district office, and I know that’s something I would never want because it would take away from me being on a student campus.”
Both really enjoy getting to do their jobs alongside students. They feel that San Marin has a student-focused environment.
“Interacting with the students probably is my favorite part of the job. I was a Teacher’s Assistant (TA) when I was in high school, and I remember thinking that that’s something that I always wanted to do, is to work in that office,” Milani said.
Their dedication to students shows in each of their interactions. Students appreciate their positive attitudes and friendly demeanors. Senior Maddox Fortune is an office TA, and enjoys working with Milani and Ramadan.
“Every time I walk into the office during third period I always get greeted and asked how my day is going,” Fortune said. “It always lightens my mood.”
Ramadan has been a member of the San Marin staff since 2007. She originally chose to work at a school to have the same schedule as her daughters, but has since found joy in working in an educational environment.
“I love the staff, because I feel very supported, collaborative, and inclusive,” Ramadan said. “I enjoy education, and being around it is so exciting and always different with new challenges.”
