Poetry is an important part of student’s education at San Marin. Students learn to write poems in their English classes, and freshman have the option to compete in the poetry slam with other poetry lovers; one of them being junior Imtasal Zubair.
Zubair has been writing poetry since she was 11 years old, and has especially enjoyed sharing writing advice with others.
“I’ve helped the kids I babysit with poetry,” Zubair said.
Zubair strives to make her poems relatable and understandable, while also speaking on specific situations that affect her.
Zubair’s poem, “Echoes of Pakistan: From Daily Rhythms to Dreams” discusses a life in Pakistan and a young girl’s dream for her future.
“I really loved writing it because it connected me to my roots that I don’t get to rekindle often.” Zubair said.

The Vibrations of the lousy fan being used to block out the radiation of the sun.
A rooster beginning to call out, waking those who haven’t arose.
Dishes and utensils being plated for the upcoming banquets being hosted in the home.
The soft cloth of her dress, adorned with various jewels and sequins.
And though the young girl, with a heart of gold.
Couldn’t see the potential she behold.
Nor hear the beckoning calls of hope pleading out to her.
Hardly ever smell the arising confidence she could one day possess.
However, reachable was the beginning of her future, awaiting her arrival.
