Kieran Sanctuary – Mountain Biking Club
Sophomore Mountain Biker Kieran Sanctuary placed second in the region last school year. He has been mountain biking since the age of eight, and last year joined the San Marin Mountain Biking club as a freshman.
“It’s fast, it’s fun, it’s loose,” Sanctuary said.
Since he is now riding with the juniors and seniors, his goal for this year is to race in the senior-class race.
“Hopefully I can place in the top 15 so I can race the most elite race which is about 30 miles,” Sanctuary said.
Vaughn Miguel – Boys Varsity Water Polo
Junior water polo standout Vaughn Miguel plays the offensive-focused position, Hole Set. In the Mustangs first game against Pinole Valley, he scored seven points.
“This will be our season if we do things right,” Miguel said.
Miguel plays for club team Sleepy Hollow Aquatics, which was selected to play in the Junior Olympics. He was nominated twice for Academic All-American, an award given to starters with a 3.5 GPA, and All-American once.
“I can’t wait to continue playing through this year and my senior year,” Miguel said.
Alison Hoburg – Girls Varsity Volleyball
Sophomore Alison Hoburg is a standout middle blocker on the Girls Varsity Volleyball team. Outside of school, she plays club volleyball for Alias of the North Coast Volleyball Association.
After being on the Freshman team last year, Hoburg skipped JV and made the Varsity team as a sophomore. She has learned to adapt to varsity’s consistency and higher pressure.
“I’m always nervous because it’s intimidating seeing the oth- er team, but my team eases my nerves.” Hoburg said.
She averages 2 blocks per game and 5 kills per game.
