Meet the Artist: Sam McWherter

Senior Sam McWherter has been doing art for as long as ey can remember, eir earliest memories revolving around creating illustrated stories. When asked what media or artists inspired em, McWherter said, “A lot of my inspiration comes from the people close to me and online communities…art that comes from a place of pure self expression has always caught my eye and pushed my own methods.” Eir motivation for continuing to pursue art comes from “passion for the craft itself.” As many artists can agree upon, McWherter feels that art is a great way to express your thoughts and feelings and gives you the opportunity to process things. Though ey still explore hands-on and traditional methods of art, McWherter considers emself a mostly digital artist, but has trouble putting a label on eir style. “My interests and intentions for my art have bounced around over the years. I used to call myself a cartoonist, but it doesn’t feel quite right with what I do now.”
