Performing arts building welcomes back students

After a year and half, musical theater will return

to the stage this semester. Students from the musical theater program will be able to use the new performing arts building to debut their musical review called “All Together Now”. It is composed of 15 songs from different musicals, it will be accompanied by a full orchestra and a plethora of dances. If COVID restrictions allow, students hope they will be maskless.

Musical theater director Kele Gasparini expressed some hardships the class has experienced after coming back from a year online.

“After having missed more than a year, we basically have two freshman classes since we did not get to know last year’s freshmen very well,” said Gasparini.

Students have mixed reactions about this semester’s choice of musical. Not having a full length musical was due to Covid restrictions.

“I am super excited to be able to have something to do this semester, but I really hoped for a full on musical,” said Junior Jasmin Hamzehloo.

Senior Marie Fehring expressed her excitement about being able to perform again.

“I am really excited to use the new theater just in time for my senior year,” said Fehring. The shows will take place

Nov. 12, 13, and 14. Tickets will be for sale during the first week of Nov. in the front office.

In addition to musical, Drama 2 students will be able to use the stage for the first time to debut their theater production,“Almost Maine.”

Almost Maine is a play by John Cariani that explores love and loss in a remote mythical town called Almost, Maine.

Junior Emily Santana expressed her mixed emotions about performing for the first time on the new stage.

“I am so nervous to perform, since it’s a new stage and I haven’t performed on a stage yet,” said Santana. “But I am grateful I have the opportunity to be using this amazing facility!”

Opening night will be Thursday Oct. 20th at 7:30 pm and will run throughout the weekend.
