Pony Express book of the week: ‘The Guest List’ by Lucy Foley

Lucy Foley’s novel, “The Guest List” has been listed as one of the best books of the year. She intertwines the perspective of the main guests of the wedding of the season. The bride, the groom, the best man, the maid of honor, the plus-one, the wedding planner, and the victim. The bride, Jules Keegan, chose an island off the coast of Ireland for her destination wedding with Reality T.V star Will Slater. Will is what every girl dreams of when picturing their future husband; He’s smart, handsome, charismatic, and smooth. Their wedding has the most elite guest list that anyone would kill to be on, literally. The novel begins with the murder being announced. As the story relives the previous days leading up to the wedding Foley presents multiple suspects that leave you curious who the real murder is. As memories and secrets from the past come to light it is revealed that everyone at the wedding has their motives, the question is who will really act on it and who will simply let it go.

Review: ★★★★★

  • Foley’s novel is one of my favorite books that I have ever read. The depth in each character and the plot twists that you never see coming always left me wanting more. The end is a shock and you will only see it coming a few pages before the book concludes.

Stefania Bitton is a senior and the Co-Editor-in-Chief for the San Marin Pony Express. You will most likely find her singing and rocking out to any song that is playing. Ironically she doesn’t know how to sing but somehow she always knows the lyrics.
