‘You throw like a girl’ is a phrase commonly used to imply that girls can not match a boys’ performance.
Freshman Sammie Low is the only girl playing on the freshman boys baseball team.
Inspired by the beloved former catcher on the San Francisco Giants, Buster Posey, Low has been playing baseball since she was in elementary school. From summer camps to travel ball, she found herself fully immersed in the sport.
Low is currently participating in Evolution Baseball, a program for girls. She shared her enjoyment when seeing a significant number of girls participating in the sport now. Through this program, Low has the chance to be invited to a national development program, Elite Development Invitational, taking place at the end of the school year.
Looking forward to her first season playing baseball at the high school level, she is most excited to make it far in the Marin County Athletic League (MCALs).
“If I can accomplish something in MCALs, I would be really proud of myself,” Low said.
Rather than focusing on statistics, Low shared that her main goal for this season is all about playing time. She keeps her mindset simple, yet still determined.
“If I can get a good amount of playing time, that would be enough for me,” Low said.
